Hoq Cave Arher Beach
Early drive to the base of Hoq cave in Terbak village. Hike up to
the entrance of the Cave. It is more than 3 km long with a water
pool at the end and holds a wealth of Socotri history. See ancient
stalactites, stalagmites and crystallic formations. Ancient
writings on the cave walls and also what appears to be a picture
of an old trading ship have been preserved over the ages by a
calcite glaze.
Enjoy a picnic lunch. Continue to Arher beach where a fresh
water stream comes down from the mountains to the sea.
Relax on the stunning coastline or if you feel fit you can climb
the huge sand dunes to get a fantastic view over this
charming spot.
Homhil
Homhil-natural protected area with many endemic plants.
Stop at Qaria lagoon en-route which is the largest lagoon on
the island and see flamingos, herons amongst others. 90
species have been identified in the area out of which seven are
limited to Homhil.
There are 4 natural trails designed for trekking with the best
views of plants, animals and nature. Homhil is a home for many
Dragon Blood Trees, which is used and traded by the people of
Socotra. Frankincense trees are also prevalent here and
deserve a close look.
