From world-class Roman ruins to mystical caravan cities built in staggering, massive deserts, Libya is a real off-the-beaten-track country filled with wonderful sites that have been barely explored by travellers. In 2011, a series of peaceful protests against Gaddafi escalated into a civil war that isolated the country even more from the rest of the world. Since 2021, however, the situation in the west of the country has improved, and that’s why Airborne has decided to start running tours in Libya.
Our Libya tours focus on the highlights the country is famous for such as the magnificent Roman ruins of Leptis Magna, Sabratha – jewel of the Mediterranean, laid back Tripoli and the mountain ranges of Jebal Nafusa.
Algeria is one of the most fascinating countries in North Africa, combining a cultural legacy that stretches back millennia along with some of the world’s most dramatic desert scenery. Once colonised by the Romans, the Turks and the French, the country has now emerged as a destination of unrivalled scope and grandeur.
Among the vast sands of the Sahara it is home to some of the most beguiling oasis towns in the region; dominated by ancient Ksars or fortified strongholds, the mud brick villages still hold on to traditions that have endured among the desert sands for centuries. It also boasts a number of World Heritage sites, the spectacular ancient site of Djemila while its bustling capital, Algiers, offers the traditional Casbah counterbalanced by a wonderfully engaging mix of Ottoman grandeur, colonial chic and modern vibrancy.
This remarkable journey takes us deep into the heart of two unique countries, as we journey from the shores of the Mediterranean to the Sahara desert.
